Springs
One of the
most crucial things, and often
the most forgotten, is to change
your recoil springs regularly.
The 1911 takes very little
maintenance, but this is one you
don’t want to forget. It affects the performance in feeding and proper ejection, aside from protecting the gun from getting battered. The simple formula for how often to change is: Government size (5") - 2,000 rounds, Commander size (4.25") - 1,500 rounds, and Officer (3.6")
500 rounds. If you will change them at that frequency, then you should never have a problem keeping your gun in optimum condition. Whatever your formula, the main thing is to remember to change them.
