Knives

Nighthawk Custom® is pleased to be one of the very few dealers for handmade custom knives by Arkansas native and Master Knifemaker, Keith Murr. Not only is Nighthawk Custom a dealer, but we work closely with Mr. Murr to design knives exclusive to us.

Arkansas has been known as a center for knife makers now for almost 200 years. To those living in this area, the name Keith Murr is synonymous with high quality custom knives of the finest order. For years Mr. Murr has made knives for friends and relatives, and taken hundreds of orders from customers all over the U.S. who have been fortunate enough to have seen his work and just had to have one.

Mr. Murr began his knife making back in 1987. He started out using saw blades, but learned very quickly that they would not hold an edge to suit his taste. He started investigating other types of steel, and began to learn about tempering from some of the big name custom knife makers of twenty years ago. As he completed each knife, he personally tested them for strength and the ability to hold an edge. He's still following his tried-and-true method today, building each knife to stand up to years of the most rigorous use

After trying many types of steel, Mr. Murr chose D2, a high-carbon tool steel as his primary steel of choice. He tempers it to a Rockwell hardness of 59-60 in order for it to sharpen somewhat easily and hold the edge he expects without becoming brittle.

Mr. Murr approaches his knife making in a unique manner. He told us, "I was raised to believe that everything I make reflects on me as a person, so I do my very best on every knife I make." We agree. It's the same philosophy we use on building our pistols and shotguns. We look forward to many years of working with him.

Take a look and see if you don't find one with your name on it. Keep in mind that these are individual examples and just like our 1911s, each one is unique and just a little different from every other one. One Gun. One Gunsmith. Or in Mr. Murrs case, One Knife. One Knifemaker.

  8. Model 425

    Model 425

    $405.00

The Model 425 is where traditional meets style. The polished elk horn handles with a stylish phenolic liner adds that extra bit of class to an already classic style. The modified clip-point blade finish can be described as a dull mirror finish. This allows the owner to use this knife without having to worry about marring a mirror-like finish. While beautiful, a mirror finish is not very forgiving in a hard-use knife like the Model 425 is designed to be. The Nighthawk logo is on one side of the blade while the Murr logo and year of manufacture is on the other side. A custom full-grained leather sheath with belt loop is included.

Add robust black and gray Micarta handle slabs to the quality steel blade and you have the makings of one of the finest fixed blades this side of the Alamo.
