Final
Preparation
|
One
of the key ingredients
to building not just a
custom 1911, but a
custom 1911 that stands
head and shoulders above
the rest, is the final
preparation on the gun.
This is where Nighthawk
Custom® pulls out in the
lead and leaves everyone
else standing in the
dust. We spend as much
time on final
preparation as we do
building the gun. Every
single area of the gun
is hand polished and
meticulously gone over.
There is not a single
sharp area anywhere on
the outside of the gun.
Not only are all the
sharp edges taken off,
but the slide, trigger
guard and frame are
shaped proportionally to
give a look and feel
that just has to be felt
to believe. That is why
industry veterans like
Larry Vickers, Ken
Hackathorn and Hilton
Yam carry guns from
Nighthawk Custom®.
We
get a lot of orders for
hard chrome finish
(right). Anyone familiar
with hard chrome knows
that it is a magnifying
glass for anything
underneath it. For the
gun to look right, it
takes a lot of loving
care to make sure it’s
perfect before it goes
finish. Kevin is the guy
you want to prep your
gun for hard chrome.
He’s as picky about your
gun as you are. He takes
a lot of pride in making
sure the work he turns
out is the best it can
be.

Gary is seen here
taking off all the
edges on one of our
slides. This is just
one more step in the
process of making
the very best 1911.
Gary is also a pro
on tactical
shotguns, but that’s
another story yet to
unfold. |

Chase (above) and
Keith (right) make
up the rest of the
smiths that are
dedicated to final
preparation. By
having people that
specialize in this
critical part of the
building process,
the quality stays
consistent. We are
determined that it
always will.
